The upcoming IMSA season is just a few weeks away from the annual Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona International Speedway. 2023 marks the 61st running of the ‘twice around the clock’ event.
As the season approaches, many teams are completing their driver lineups for the historic race. One of those teams includes Vasser Sullivan with Lexus Racing, a GTD Pro team. The team announced Wednesday that former IndyCar driver and Sevenoaks, England native Mike Conway will join the team at Daytona.
Conway will race in the No. 14 Lexus RCF GT3 entry alongside his teammates and full-season drivers Jack Hawksworth and Ben Barnicoat.
“I’m excited to be racing in the No.14 Lexus RC F GT3 at the Rolex 24 at Daytona with Vasser Sullivan. It’s my first time racing in a GT car so there is a lot to learn, but the whole Vasser Sullivan team and my teammates, Jack and Ben, have been really helping to get me up to speed. I’m looking forward to getting on track at Daytona in the coming weeks.”
Conway has spent most of his IMSA WeatherTech Championship Seasons with the No. 31 Whelen Engineering Racing/Action Express team. The 2023 season will be the first time Conway will be racing with the Vasser Sullivan and Lexus Racing team.
The team principals of Jimmy Vasser and James “Sulli” Sullivan are excited to bring Conway to the team with his exceptional sports car racing background.
“We’ve enjoyed some good IndyCar podium battles with Mike (Conway) in years past, so we’re glad to have him racing for us, and not against us! Mike is no stranger to the Rolex 24 and it’s a privilege to have his first race in a GT3 car be with us.”
The 2023 season is slated to get underway next weekend with the annual Roar Before the 24 at Daytona January 20-22.
