Chip Ganassi’s No.10 fails post- Indianapolis 500 technical inspection due to failed front wing height measurement

Sunday night, after the checkered flag flew on the 110th Indianapolis 500, a post-race technical inspection penalty was announced for the No. 10 entry for Chip Ganassi Racing. 

The car was found to have failed the front wing height measurement. The rules involving this concern the end place and the maximum and minimum heights. 

“Rule 14.7.6.8. Front wing must adhere to the following Technical Inspection dimensions.” 

“Rule 14.7.6.7.1. For the purposes of technical inspection, the front wing must not measure less than 8.300 inches when set at any angle, while installed on the IndyCar technical inspection fixture.” 

IndyCar Officiating has determined that the non-compliance was the result of “assembly error” and not an intentional modification. Regardless, the series has handed the No.10 car a penalty of five driver and owner points, along with a $10,000 fine. 

Palou, who led 59 laps and finished seventh in Sunday’s Indy 500, keeps his result, but loses the aforementioned points. The team will not appeal the penalty.
