Chase Briscoe left Saturday’s Unhinged 300 with an 18th place result in what he said was – “Typical Talladega.”

Starting fourth, Briscoe’s No. 98 Ford Performance Racing School Ford for Stewart Haas Racing went on to finish stage one in third and win stage two.

The fourth caution of the day came out on lap 78 and Briscoe was involved. An incident on the front stretch occurred involving himself, the No. 18 of [Riley] Herbst , the No. 02 of [Brett] Moffitt and the No. 08 of [Joe] Graf Jr., were also involved. With no where to go, Briscoe ultimately made significant contact with the No. 18 of Herbst.

“I could never get a hole and we got back there with [some] slower cars and almost lost the draft but was able to catch back up,” said Briscoe.

“As soon as we caught back up, we were [looking good] in that top 10 area, that’s when that guy spun right in front of me and I had nowhere to go.  I clipped him with the left-front, tore the left-front off the thing and was surprisingly still decent for the amount of damage we had.  I thought we were gonna be able to maybe salvage something. Then at the end, when you have that much damage, nobody wants to work with you so we [just] couldn’t get anything going on that last restart.”

Despite the damage, Briscoe was able to salvage a top-20 finish, finishing 18th in the 11th race of the season.

“It’s typical Talladega.  You come here and you know what can happen.” said Briscoe. There’s so much out of your control and we were just in the wrong place at the wrong time.  Fortunately, we were able to get a stage win, so that’s really the big positive to take away from today.”

Briscoe currently sits second in the points standings, 15 points behind leader Noah Gragson heading into next weekend’s race at Pocono Raceway.
