TALLADEGA, Al. – After trying for several hours to get the track dry at Talladega Superspeedway, NASCAR has postponed the Geico 500 until 2 p.m. CST on Monday.
At one point, it looked like racing would happen but a second wave of thunderstorms and lightning blew threw the are and drenched Turns 3 and 4.
“Lightning strike within our window,” was the first radio transmission from the NASCAR tower.
That was quickly followed by, “light rain in Turns 3 and 4” and just one minute later, the radio crackled, “we have lost the track all the way around.”
The sanctioning body waited a few minutes and then call the Toyota Track Drying Team back to the infield and announced the race would run on Monday.
