Denny Hamlin’s streak of Top-5s continue at Watkins Glen By Sarah Handy, Staff Writer
After a couple weeks of tough luck in the middle part of July, Denny Hamlin and his Joe Gibbs Racing team have rebounded nicely to capture one win, and three additional finishes in the Top-5. That streak of finishes continued Sunday afternoon in the Go Bowling at The Glen from Watkins Glen International in NY.
Hamlin’s No. 11 FedEx Cares Toyota was fast from the time the team unloaded at the 2.5-mile road course.
Furthermore, with results of third and seventh on the two practice speed charts, qualifying also proved to be a success for driver and team as they earned a sixth place starting spot on the grid for Sunday’s event.

Coming off his third win of the season last weekend at Pocono Raceway, Hamlin certainly had momentum on his side.
While victory lane wasn’t in the cards for the second week in a row, Hamlin without a doubt did have a consistent day all while keeping his Top-5 streak intact.
The veteran driver finished out all three stages in the Top-10, finishing second, fifth and crossing the finish line on Lap 90 in the third position.
Hamlin’s third place finish was his fourth Top-5 finish in the last four races.
With previous finishes of fifth at Kentucky Speedway, second at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, and capturing the victory at Pocono Raceway, Hamlin is finding consistency in the latter part of the Summer months.
“This keeps momentum for us, but just wish we were a little better. Overall, not bad”, said Hamlin.
“Just been better as a whole. Just communication getting better, everything is getting better. I’ve got a first-year crew chief (Chris Gabehart) that’s finding his feet right now and our communication is good. He’s showing up to the race track and bringing me a fast car. I’m driving them as hard as I can. It’s all working right now.”
