A strong night at Richmond Raceway turned into a nightmare for Erik Jones, as his No. 20 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota failed to pass the O.S.S. (Optical Scanning Station) in postrace inspection.

The issue led to a disqualification of the No. 20 from the race results, stripping him of his fourth-place finish and all of his 42 points earned on the night.

Having had just a three-point hole behind the playoff cutline with one race remaining in the first round of the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series playoffs, Jones now sits 45 points back, arguably a must-win situation.

The DQ also ends what was a 1-2-3-4 finish by JGR, their first in their history and the first in the series since 2005.
