CONCORD, N.C. – Tempers flared and a fight broke out between Ryan Newman and Clint Bowyer in the Monster Energy All-Star Race.
According to NASCAR senior vice president of competition Scott Miller, no penalties will be assessed to either driver. NASCAR talked to both drivers post-race in the hauler separately.
“Well, they had a little difference of opinion out there on the racetrack, Miller said post-race. “They had a little bit of a difference of opinion here in the trailer. We think we kind of understand what went on out there. I think they are in a pretty good place. We are going to keep an eye on it.
“We think we are in a good place with them. We will have to certainly monitor that next week and moving forward with those two. It was a great race with a lot of passion. They aren’t the things you kind of want, but out of a night like tonight, you kind of almost expect some tempers to flare. That is what we had. I think we are in a pretty good place with it.”
Because of the conversation in the hauler and recent history, Miller believes no penalty will be assessed.
“I don’t want to get into talking about penalties and
reasons why,” he said. “Every situation is different. We handle every one different.
It depends on what they say, where we think they are, and that is between us
and them.”
Going forward, NASCAR reiterated it will continue to monitor both drivers and intervene if the shenanigans continue between Bowyer and Newman.
