In his first race since Daytona, Myatt Snider made his Gander Outdoors Truck Series return well-known in Saturday’s TruNorth Global 250 at Martinsville Speedway. The 24-year-old drove his No. 27 Thorsport Racing Ford to finish sixth after 250 laps.
Building from a disappointing qualifying result of 15th, Snider thought he had more than enough to contend even further up front.
“I definitely knew we were better than sixth — we were one of the fastest cars on track for a long time during the race,” Snider said. “It’s a good day when you’re disappointed with sixth place.”
Snider believes he had something for race winner Kyle Busch.
“I’m really proud of the team for bringing me a great truck but I wish we had track position to do [something] with it,” he said. “I know we could have challenged Kyle [Busch] if I had gotten up there.”
The track widened out, which led to a somewhat useable outside lane on both ends of the half-mile.
“You have to be really careful with it because it’s easy to miss,” he said of the outside groove. “There is a fine line of usability. I definitely think the top groove is starting to come in. Hopefully, we can keep trending that way for the rest of the time we race here.”
Even still, sixth place was met with smiles from the No. 27 camp. For Snider, it was his first top 10 since the last race at Martinsville last fall when he finished third. He was happy to make the most of the day, not knowing for certain when he will race next.
“This is one of my more favorite tracks which is why I picked to come here,” he said. “You can’t squander any chances you do get. Being able to race here and run as good as we did is very helpful.”
