JUSTIN, TX – First, it was a heavy fog and mist that brought the NASCAR Cup Series race to a halt at Texas Motor Speedway on Lap 52, then a light rain set in.
The combination was too much for NASCAR’s track drying team consisting of 10 Toyota Air Titans, a half-dozen jet dryers, a couple of Elgin sweepers, a vacuum truck and crew members using portable fans on pit road to overcome.
The heavy wet air never went away and that led to the rescheduling of the remaining 282 laps of the race until Monday at 9 a.m. CST.
When the red flag came out at 3:34 pm CST, Clint Bowyer was leading the field after taking fuel only on a previous pit stop. He is followed by Jimmie Johnson in second and Erik Jones in third. The race was officially delayed at 7:40 pm EST
Joey Logano is currently the highest playoff driver in the field in fourth place. Playoff drivers Martin Truex Jr. and Chase Elliott are in fifth and sixth, respectively.
