The My Bariatric Solutions 300 at Texas Motor Speedway looked like it was going to be one of his best finishes of the 2018 season.

Jones was able to score his first stage victory in the second stage after a daring pit strategy by his crew chief on the caution before the stage break. However, that day went sour on Lap 98 as Jones went for a spin on the frontstretch tagging the wall, collecting Alex Labbe and Kaz Grala.

“It is a product of running at the top. We placed our whole entire race on being on that bottom lane. We made that pit call at the end of stage two that worked out for us,” Jones stated outside the infield care center.

“We got stage points. It’s so tough on the top. There is so much grip on the bottom, but it is so cold out. When you get out of that rubber, it’s difficult.”

Jones had three goals this weekend at Texas—qualify good, get stage points and finish in the top-five. Before the accident, Jones was in position to score that top-five, but is disappointed that opportunity will not come at Texas.

“Just disappointed, man. I want to prove so bad that I can run in the top five and I think we were going to today. We’ve got plenty of races left and we’ll make sure we do it again soon.”

When the checkered flag fell, Jones was scored in the 33rd position.
