It was “Mr. Where Did He Come From” in the final stages of the Roseanne 300 at Auto Club Speedway for Austin Dillon.
During the two practice sessions on Friday, Dillon ran in the top-10. When it came to NASCAR XFINITY Series qualifying on Saturday morning, the speed show in practice was not there. Dillon qualified 19th for the race but knew that he had a decent car on the long run.
Once the green flag dropped, Dillon and his No. 3 Richard Childress Racing crew began to make up the lost ground from qualifying.
Dillon and his crew started the race with a loose vehicle but continued to tighten up the car on pit stop. The final pit stop of the race provided Dillon with what he needed to propel toward the leaders.
“It was a lot of fun. We started out with a rough day. You never want to come here and qualify 19th. I knew we had a car for the long runs. We had to adjust on it. The last run we made an adjustment. I could run the top good and have momentum. We were able to make some passes. That was fun,” Dillon stated after the race.
Dillon was able to take his No. 3 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet to a fourth-place finish. This is his second consecutive top-five at the track and his first top-five of 2018.
