William Byron will start from the rear of the field in Sunday’s O’Reilly Auto Parts 500 from Texas Motor Speedway.

During the opening Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series practice of the season, Byron noticed after a couple of laps that there was an issue with the engine. An oil pressure issue was sending the engine into protection mode, which ultimately shut the engine down twice. The team elected to swap engines during the session.

“We’d make a couple of laps … and then have some engine trouble,” Byron told Fox Sports 1. “So we’re just working through that. We really needed some practice time. We’ll kind of rebound from that and hopefully be able to make a lap in qualifying and see what the balance is.”

Byron is making his first Cup start at Texas this weekend.
