Grant Enfinger didn’t leave anything on the table Friday night at ISM Raceway. Unfortunately for the Thorsport Racing driver, it still wasn’t enough.

Leading 10 laps in the Lucas Oil 150, Enfinger was in contention for the race win in the final 10 laps. A win that would not be just his second of 2018 but would lock him into Homestead for the Camping World Truck Series title fight next weekend.

However, the race’s final restart saw Enfinger drop from the top spot and fall victim to race winner Brett Moffitt. Finishing fourth, the loss cost him a spot in the Championship 4.

“Racing is a roller coaster. You kind of get numb to that kind of stuff after a while,” Enfinger said of the disappointment. “We didn’t really have the speed tonight, it was honestly a good-driving truck, it just wasn’t enough to get it done.”

With Moffitt pulling off an aggressive three-wide move for the win on the final restart, Enfinger knew he was in a precarious position in that situation.

“I got a good launch on the last restart with three to go,” he said. “The No. 18 [Noah Gragson], he was just really good no matter where you put it. I drove it as hard as I could possibly drive it and hoped it would stick. I had to bounce off him a little bit and opened the door for the No. 16.”

His fourth-place finish was his sixth top five of the year and 14th top 10. With a win at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Enfinger leaves ISM with frustration, knowing his No. 98 team should be in the Championship 4.

“This team has worked really hard all year and deserves a chance to race for a championship,” he said. “That’s what I hate the most, that these guys can’t run for a championship this year.

“I am super proud of the effort and how far we have come. We fixed a lot of the weaknesses we had. I’ll have to come back next year.”
