Regan Smith will return to Leavine Family Racing this weekend at Dover International Raceway, as Kasey Kahne, the team’s regular driver, will again sit out the weekend.
Following the hot night at Darlington Raceway last month, Kahne chose to sit out the following four Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series races at Indianapolis, Las Vegas, Richmond and the Charlotte ROVAL due to prolonged effects from heat exhaustion. And though the veteran was scheduled to return this weekend at Dover, he will be sidelined for the fifth straight event.
Kahne participated in a medical test session Monday from Charlotte Motor Speedway that saw the 38-year-old turn his first laps since Darlington.
In his place, Smith will make his fifth straight start in the team’s No. 95 Chevrolet. Smith has finished 20th or better in three of his four starts including a 15th last weekend at the Charlotte ROVAL.
