CONCORD, N.C. – NASCAR officials called a meeting with multiple drivers Friday afternoon to discuss pressing issues and to address concerns about Sunday’s Cup Series race on the ROVAL.

Several drivers, including Ryan Blaney, Denny Hamlin, Erik Jones, Daniel Suarez and Paul Menard were seen leaving the hauler shortly after 3 p.m. Within a few minutes, Jamie McMurray, Regan Smith and Corey LaJoie were observed entering the conference hauler.

Suarez confirmed one of the topics being discussed.

“The ROVAL,” he said. “It was just to know the thoughts and where we are at but everything is good. So far, with the first practice, I thought everything was good so we’ll see what happens when we qualify.”

Asked about the meetings, a NASCAR spokesperson said they were “check-ins” which are frequently done with drivers during weekends at Charlotte Motor Speedway because it is easy to get everyone together.

“I am sure the ROVAL is a topic,” the NASCAR representative said. “But it is just a general check-in.”

Sources also said the release of the upcoming 2019 race package was discussed but they did not comment further.
