Christopher Bell claims third straight Chili Bowl victory
It’s no secret that Christopher Bell is one of the best wheelmen of the current generation, and he continues to leave little, if any, doubt.
Bell competed in the Chili Bowl, one of the most prestigious dirt Midget races in the world, in Tulsa, Oklahoma on Saturday night. He passed fellow NASCAR driver Kyle Larson on the last lap to win his third consecutive Chili Bowl, a feat accomplished by only one other driver.
Larson has yet to win the Chili Bowl, despite competing in the event for the last few years. Larson acknowledged that he didn’t hit his marks in turns three and four, allowing Bell to get to his inside and eventually pass him for the win.
“Coming to the white, I missed (Turns) 3 and 4 and lost some time,” Larson said. “I glanced at the monitor and hoped he wouldn’t be there. He was. I missed the corner and he got inside me.”
Bell competes full-time in the NASCAR XFINITY Series for Joe Gibbs Racing. He earned seven victories last season and finished fourth in points.
Larson drives for Chip Ganassi Racing in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series. 2018 was his fifth year in the series, earning 12 top-five finishes in the 36-race schedule, including five second-place runs.
Other notables:
- Brad Sweet — 7th
- Logan Seavey – 9th
- Tanner Thorson – 10th
- Rico Abreu – 15th
- Chad Boat – 17th
- Ricky Stenhouse Jr. – 22nd (DNF)

Webb, McElrath win Triple Crown event in Anaheim
The Monster Energy AMA Supercross Series returned to Angel Stadium in Anaheim, California last Saturday night for the second time this season, though this go-round would look a little different.
Anaheim II is one of three Triple Crown events of the season (Detroit and Houston are the other two), meaning the overall winner of the 450SX and 250SX class is determined by the combined lowest race finish across the three mains.
Cooper Webb earned the overall victory in the 450SX class, winning the first two races and finishing third in the last, giving him an overall score of 1-1-3 for his first career 450SX victory. Webb is the second first-time winner in a row after Blake Baggett won his first career race last week in Glendale.
Marvin Musquin would earn second overall, with a score of 3-2-2. Musquin and Webb were the only two riders to sweep the podium.
Eli Tomac earned third overall, followed by Ken Roczen and Dean Wilson to round out the top five.
Shane McElrath earned the overall victory in the 250SX class with a score of 3-2-1. Dylan Ferrandis was second with a score of 2-1-3.
250SX point leader Colt Nichols was third overall. Rj Hampshire was fourth followed by Adam Cianciarulo to round out the top five.
Roczen continues to lead the points in the 450SX class. Tomac is second with 61 points, while Webb is third with 57.
In the 250SX class, Nichols continues to top the standings, with 70 points to second-place McElrath’s 68. Ferrandis is in third with 63 points.

Mexican driver Benito Guerra wins 2019 Race of Champions
It is entirely possible, and one might even argue likely, that you had not heard the name Benito Guerra before today.
Here is why his victory at the 2019 Race of Champions was such a big deal.
For the first time in the history of the race, the event was hosted in a Hispanic American country. The 2019 ROC was held at the Foro Sol Stadium in Mexico City.
Guerra is a Mexican rally driver who competes in World Rally Championship’s lower-tier WRC2 category. He drove a Mexican-built Vuhl sports car to the victory.
The 33-year-old Guerra beat out FIA WEC champion and Formula E driver Loic Duval to take the victory. The race featured multiple well-known and accomplished drivers from across the world of motorsports, including Sebastian Loeb, Mattias Ekstrom, and Sebastian Vettel, which makes Guerra’s underdog victory that much more impressive.
Daniel Suarez represented the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series in the Race of Champions, though he dropped out of the event early due to mechanical issues. Ruben Garcia was present for the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East.
Other notables in the event were 24-time NTT IndyCar Series winner Helio Castroneves; three-time Indianapolis 500 winner Ryan-Hunter Reay; Mick Schumacher, son of seven-time Formula One World Champion Michael Schumacher; Memo Rojas, four-time Rolex Sports Car Series champion; and Josef Newgarden, 2017 NTT IndyCar Series champion.
