This weekend’s race at Dover International Speedway will be special for two drivers in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series field.

The father-son duo of David and Todd Gilliland will be racing against each other this weekend. David will be running with his own team, DGR-CROSLEY; while Todd is with Kyle Busch Motorsports.

For David, this is a special moment in his career to be racing with his son.

“I’ve looked forward to a lot of them and nothing’s been like this. This is our first time racing against each other in a NASCAR series. It’s just super special to be able to race with your son,” David stated.

Although he understands that it will be tough racing with his father, Todd hopes that he can go out on Friday afternoon and outperform.

“We’re hoping to beat each other, but also you just kind of focus on the real race out there. It’s going to be good. He’s always a good guy to lean on for me, but now with his experience first-hand at the race track, the same track that I’m dealing with right now, it’s going to be I think a little bit of an advantage. It’s always going to be tough racing with him,” Todd stated.

In the only two practice sessions of the weekend happening on Thursday, Todd was faster than David, just fast enough that David was going out to seek some advice from Todd.

“He’s really fast, so I was actually just getting ready to ask him a couple questions when we get out of here,” David jokingly stated.
