HOMESTEAD, Fla. — Spencer Boyd is among the plethora of drivers who are in a state of uncertainty for 2019.

The XFINITY Series rookie, who competed full-time for SS-Greenlight Racing in 2018, may have struggled with speed throughout the season, but his career may be looking up for 2019.

“For me, it’s going out there and running full-time,” Boyd told Kickin’ The Tires. “Next year is going to allow us to do that — to take what I’ve learned this year and take it on next year. I think we’re going to be really good next year.”

Unable to reveal the team, Boyd will announce the ride after January, just weeks before the season opener at Daytona International Speedway. Boyd says he is excited to “getting the rookie stripes off” toward a possible return to XFINITY.

“Next year, we’ll be in more contention to run well,” he said. “I feel it will be a good group of guys. The good thing is, I will be here, I will be racing.

“We’re going to go real fast.”

Through 32 races in 2018, Boyd scored just two top-20 finishes, entering the season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway 26th in points. However, a full-time ride gave the 23-year-old the opportunity to learn the series.

“I love NASCAR, so to be in this sport is a big deal,” he said. “I got so many great people behind me making it possible. A lot of learning, a lot of new tracks. At the end of the day, everyone works hard. To be top five most popular driver right now in my first season is pretty crazy. You have a lot of Spencer Boyd lovers out there and you got a lot of people who are like, ‘Who is Spencer Boyd?’

“I’m looking forward to next year, getting those rookie stripes off and get more consistent, that’s the plan.”
