HAMPTON, Ga. — After being involved in an accident on lap 28, Josh Williams was penalized for littering the track with debris in Saturday’s Raptor King of Tough 250 at Atlanta Motor Speedway. NASCAR ordered Williams to park his car, and he did just that – but at the start-finish line.
Williams exited his No. 92 Chevrolet and walked to the infield, and flashed a peace sign to the grandstands. Williams was told to meet with Wayne Auton, the Xfinity Series managing director. “What’s he gonna do, fine me? I can’t afford to pay it,” Williams is heard saying in a video to series officials taken by Noah Lewis.
Williams sat in the hauler with his damaged car outside the hauler until after the conclusion of the event.
NASCAR Cup Series Denny Hamlin has already reached out to Williams in a tweet saying “I’ll pay your fine.”
Former full-time NASCAR driver David Ragan also reached out in a Tweet, replying to Dirty Mo’ Media‘s Mike Davis, “Let me know where I can send in a contribution to the fund!!”
Williams was ultimately credited with a 32nd-place finish after he parked his car 33 laps into the race at Atlanta.
