For the second straight time at Richmond Raceway, Tyler Ankrum scored a top-five finish in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series.
Starting 30th in Saturday’s Toyota Care 250 at the Virginia short track, Ankrum used pit strategy late to take the next step from top-10 contention to a podium result.
Passing Chandler Smith late in the going, Ankrum would cross the line in third place, scoring his best finish in the series since finishing second in June 2020 at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
For Ankrum, the third place compliments a fifth-place run he had at Richmond last fall.
Saturday’s result was six weeks in the making, as the 20-year-old has had a rough start to the 2021 season. In fact, Richmond was only his second top-20 finish through six races and his first finish higher than 18th.
It comes at an opportune time, as the series will race four times in the month of May, starting in two weeks at Kansas Speedway.
