Following each regular season points race, Kickin’ the Tires takes a deep look at the current playoff grids for both the NASCAR XFINITY Series and Camping World Truck Series, evaluating the postseason picture for NASCAR’s second and third tours.
Xfinity Series
Track: Iowa Speedway
Event: U.S. Cellular 250
Race Winner: Christopher Bell
Stage Winner(s): Cole Custer, Christopher Bell
Who Won Big
Christopher Bell: The summer of Bell continued in Iowa. Bell earned his third-straight win, becoming the first series regular to do so since Dale Earnhardt Jr. in 1999. As a result the Oklahoman increase his playoff point total to 24 – a higher mark than the next three competitors combined.
Cole Custer: After numerous close calls, Custer finally secured a stage win and a playoff point in Iowa. Each of those bonus points will help his cause when the postseason arrives.
Ross Chastain: A strong late surge netted Chastain an unexpected fourth-place finish in Iowa, granting the veteran and his JD Motorsports team the right to celebrate a result few could have anticipated. The run also pushed Chastain 40 points clean of Michael Annett for the final playoff spot, giving him a little margin or error over the final weeks of the regular season.
Who Hurt Their Odds:
Michael Annett and Ryan Sieg: The unanticipated strength of Chastain was critical for the playoff hopes of Annett and Sieg, bumping both drivers far enough back in the standings that they may need a race win to clinch a playoff berth.

Camping World Truck Series
(Photo: NKP)
Track: Pocono Raceway
Event: Gander Outdoors 150
Race Winner: Kyle Busch
Stage Winner(s): Todd Gilliland, Stewart Friesen
Who Won Big
Stewart Friesen: For the fourth time this season, Friesen secured a stage win and an extra playoff point. Assuming he holds on to his current advantage in point, Friesen will be set to content in his first playoff appearance.
Grant Enfinger and Matt Crafton: Neither driver tallied playoff points, but they each held on to their sturdy playoff advantages and avoided a surprise winner at Pocono.
Who Hurt Their Odds:
Myatt Snider: Another week lost. Snider will need a victory to secure a playoff position, and thus far the likelihood of him earning one seems slim.
