#22: Joey Logano, Team Penske, Ford Mustang Shell Pennzoil
#12: Ryan Blaney, Team Penske, Ford Mustang Menards/Jack Links
Following each points race, Kickin’ the Tires takes a deep look at the current playoff grids for both the NASCAR XFINITY Series and Camping World Truck Series, evaluating the postseason picture for NASCAR’s second and third tours.
Xfinity Series
Track: Dover International Speedway
Event: Bar Harbor 200
Race Winner: Christopher Bell
Stage Winner(s): Christopher Bell, Daniel Hemric
Who Won Big
Christopher Bell: He did it again. Bell became the winningest rookie in Xfinity Series history with yet another victory on Saturday. That propelled him into the Round of 8 with a whopping 44 playoff points.
Austin Cindric and Matt Tifft: Their playoff hopes fell into uncertainty many times over the afternoon, but Cindric and Tifft ultimately did just enough to move on to the Round of 8. They’ll enter the penultimate round as the biggest underdogs remaining.
Daniel Hemric: Won another stage. Got another playoff point. The No. 21 team will likely need winning speed when it counts to claim the title, but their playoff point total has a good chance to at least get them to the Championship 4.
Who Hurt Their Odds:
Ross Chastain: The Xfinity Series’ Cinderella story came to a close on Saturday, as a valiant drive from Chastain fell just a few positions shy of moving him on to the next round. Now the wait begins to see what, if any, changes could come the Las Vegas winner’s way heading into next season.
The Ryans: Ryan Truex and Ryan Reed were ultimately never in the running at Dover, finishing well short of the win they both likely needed to advance. Their playoff runs are over.
Brandon Jones: The Georgian’s second playoff berth ended much like the first one – with an early exit after a poor run. Jones’ 22nd-place effort at the Charlotte Roval ultimately proved too much to overcome.
