KANSAS CITY, Kan. – Alex Bowman is adamant his NASCAR Cup Series team owner, Rick Hendrick, is scared to pull up to the stripe and let the green flag fly in their Corvette vs. Corvette grudge match for pinks. So, he told members of the media that if he wins the All-Star race next week at Charlotte Motor Speedway, he’ll take his share of the cash and go double-or-nothing against the boss if it will get the billionaire businessman on track.
“I am not sure how much I do, or don’t, get to keep out of it but I will take whatever I can get if we can make it happen,” Bowman said, when asked about he $1 million payout and if he would go double-or-nothing with Hendrick, should their much-hyped race ever come to fruition. “Yeah, why not. I mean what ‘s the worst that could happen.”
Bowman said he is still waiting for Hendrick to get his Chevrolet Corvette ready for their race and it’s sure when, or if, it will happen. He explained they had been talking about it “for a long time.” In fact, Hendrick was the one who let the cat out of the bag on their bet after Bowman won the pole for the 2018 Daytona 500.
Hendrick said the grudge match would happen and someone was losing their title but there appears to be no deadline in site. Bowman previously joked with Kickin’ the Tires that he thought Hendrick was “scared.” On Friday at Kansas Speedway, he said it again.
“We’ve been talking about that for so long, hopefully soon,” Bowman said. “I’d like to do it. He’s got to get his car ready. He might be a little bit scared, for sure. I think he’s probably scared.”
Hendrick was not immediately available for comment but was adamant when last asked about the bet that he was going to have another car to add to his collection.
