Ty Gibbs Paces Open Test at Charlotte Motor Speedway

Joe Gibbs Racing driver Ty Gibbs continued his strong month of May in Monday’s open test at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Gibbs, who will make his Charlotte Motor Speedway debut later this month, turned a 30.186-second (178.891-mph) lap to put his No. 18 Toyota Camry at the top of the speed charts. 

REV Racing driver Nick Sanchez finished the session in second, 0.089-seconds off of Gibbs’ fastest time. 

Drew Dollar, David Gilliland, and Corey Heim rounded out the top-five in the session.

Results from Charlotte Motor Speedway Open Test

A total of 19 drivers turned laps during the test session at Charlotte. The margin between first and ninth was under one second (0.978-seconds).

Fast Track Racing had the most representation with four cars. Kevin Fontana, Kyle Lockrow, D.L. Wilson, and Jason Miles all participated with Andy Hillenburg’s organization.

The General Tire 150 at Charlotte Motor Speedway is slated to be run on May 29th following the next race at Toledo Speedway on May 22nd. The day before the famed Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte will feature the NASCAR Xfinity Series and NASCAR Cup Series qualifying alongside the ARCA Menards Series. One of Christian's dreams is for NASCAR or ARCA to return to Memphis International Raceway.
