For the third straight race, Chase Briscoe finished in the top five in the NASCAR Xfinity Series.

However, Saturday’s fourth-place finish in the Alsco 300 had some disappointment, as Briscoe was on rails in the final 25 laps. And though he caught second and third place drivers Tyler Reddick and Cole Custer, there wasn’t enough time to make the pass.

“I felt I had the best car the last 25 laps,” Briscoe told Kickin’ The Tires. “It’s just so hard to pass. I was better in [Turns] 1, 2 than a lot of guys. When we were battling for second, Cole and Reddick were so close I couldn’t pull a slider to clear them.”

Hooking the bottom lane late, the progress of the Stewart-Haas Racing driver was halted by lapped traffic, keeping him behind the two to finish fourth.

“Earlier in the race, we were definitely better on the long run than the short,” he said. “As the race went on, we got better on the short runs. Here, it always comes down to 20- or 30-lap runs.

“We just didn’t have enough laps.”

With three straight top fives and five straight top 10s, Briscoe foresees little counderies to SHR’s success through the summer races.

“We’re really a Championship 4 contender,” he said. “Our points standings don’t show that because we don’t have very many stage points. But three top fives in a row, we’re battling up front each weekend.”

Also missing out on the Dash 4 Cash win, Briscoe knows where the improvement can be made, hopefully, just in time for next weekend at Richmond Raceway.

“Definitely unfortunate we didn’t win the $100,000 but we got another chance next weekend,” he said. “We just have to get better throughout the race. This was the first week we’ve bene up front the whole race, that 5th to 7th spot the first half of the race.

“Overall, it was a really good weekend once again. We got to go to Richmond and do the same thing.”
