“I’m motivated by the recent announcement of our playoffs expanding to ten drivers,” said Boyd. “We grew so much last year so there is a new set of goals this year. Plain and simple, I’m eager to get the season started and I’m not going to lie, I like that I won’t have those yellow stripes on the rear bumper for the first time in my career.”
Tyler Young is equally excited to have Boyd back at the organization this season.
“What can I say about Spencer Boyd?” asked Team Principal Tyler Young. “I’m reminded every day what he means to our team because I walk by that confetti covered truck and get motivated to further develop our program. We have much more to accomplish together.”
In 2019 Boyd competed in 18 of the 23 NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series events on the series schedule for Young’s Motorsports.
Boyd’s time with Young’s began in the season opener NextEra Energy 250 at Daytona International Speedway where he earned a solid fourth place result in his No. 20 1A Auto Chevrolet.
The Missouri native earned his first career Truck Series victory at Talladega Superspeedway in October after it was ruled by NASCAR that the initial race winner Johnny Sauter had blocked his way around the 2.66-mile Superspeedway for the final two-lap shootout.
Sauter’s defensive driving at the end of the event caused fellow competitor Riley Herbst below the yellow line right before he crossed the finish line. This incident caused NASCAR to review the finish, ultimately after review NASCAR declared Boyd the race winner.
“You dream of winning races, four years ago I was selling cars with my dad for Hendrick Automotive,” said Boyd. “You never know what’s going to happen here. Sitting there second, was going to be happy. Then one of my crew guys said, `You won!” ′
In addition to his time spent in the NGROTS, Boyd made his Cup debut in the Consumers Energy 400 at Michigan International Speedway in August for Rick Ware Racing, finishing 38th in his series debut due to an unfortunate crash after 123 of the 200 scheduled laps.
Boyd competed in two additional Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series events for Rick Ware Racing in 2019 at Richmond International Raceway and Talladega Superspeedway finishing 34th and 40th (engine), respectively.
Young’s Motorsports has stated that a crew chief and sponsorship for Boyd will be announced soon.
The NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series season-opener NextEra Energy 250 at Daytona International Speedway will take place on Friday February 14 at 7:30 p.m. ET live on FS1.
