Robert Wickens is awake and alert following a violent crash Sunday at Pocono Raceway. The driver of the No. 6 has been transported to Lehigh Valley Cedar Crest Hospital in Allentown for evaluation.

“[Wickens] was awake and alert here at the medical center,” said Curt Cavin, vice president of communications for IndyCar. “A part of the delay in providing information had to do with multiple drivers here in the medical center.”

The No. 6 Schmidt Peterson Motorsport driver was racing Ryan Hunter-Reay for position following an early restart when the two made contact in Turn 2. The contact spun Hunter-Reay and clipped Wickens, who launched airborne into the catch fence. He spun to a stop bottom-side down.

James Hinchcliffe, Pietro Fittipaldi and Takuma Sato were also involved. Hunter-Reay, Hinchcliffe and Sato were checked and released from infield care as well as Fittipaldi, who walked away uninjured.

“I’m a little sore after the impact but thankfully 100 percent,” Fittipaldi said. “I had to slam the brakes and get low, I lost the rear of the car and hit [Hinchcliffe]. Just trying to slow down and I lost it.”

Further details will be announced when they’re available on the conditions of Wickens.
